The result is a Vari-Mu compressor like no other. Why does the Gravity Machine make sound golden? The signal passes through a total of 3 transformers and 4 triode tubes per channel.
Why is that important? Tubes (especially triodes) add harmonics to the signal that the human ear perceives as pleasant, improving the perception of individual sound sources. Each instrument gains additional presence through the tube. Transformers, by converting current → magnetic field → current and their inherent nonlinearities, provide pleasing compression of the sound even before any actual compression happens. The bass becomes tighter and more defined. The highs are pleasantly rounded.
The Gravity Machine can make the difference between "pretty well mixed" and "sounds perfect".
The Compression Modes
Whether you want to gently thicken the signal, hit it hard, or react to complex situations —

The digitally generated control signal (side-chain) provides flexibility that isn’t possible with purely analog means.
It allows you to emulate the behavior of any existing compressor.
Want the Gravity Machine to behave like an optical compressor, including memory effect?
But still want adjustable attack and release?
No problem!
Or compress smoothly like a Vari-Mu? Or precisely like a VCA?
But that’s just the beginning for the Gravity Machine.
Tegeler has created entirely new modes not found in any other compressor, generating control signals based on complex rules.
These modes were developed and optimized for various applications in countless listening sessions.
Simply choose the program that best fits your song.
The Side-Chain Filter
The side-chain filter determines which frequency range the compressor reacts to.
Prevent pumping with the low-cut filter.
Focus on higher or lower frequencies using the tilt EQ.
The side-chain filter works in addition to the built-in filters of each compression mode.
The Motor Control
Each knob is equipped with a servo motor that can set the potentiometer to any position. You can override it at any time — a slip clutch and the software always give priority to your manual input.
You don’t need modern network bells and whistles? No problem — the Gravity Machine can be fully operated via the front panel and behaves like any traditional hardware unit.
The Network Connection
Connect the Gravity Machine to your network. It retrieves the necessary settings automatically via DHCP.
Via the internet, you could even control the Gravity Machine from Sydney or LA.
The Plug-in
Load the plug-in into your favorite DAW and control the Gravity Machine from there. The motorized pots follow every movement. Or control it directly on the unit — both stay in sync.
When you save your song using the plug-in, the Gravity Machine’s settings are saved automatically. When you reopen the session, all settings are restored. Every knob is exactly where it was.
